If light is an essential element for the harmony of your interior, it is nonetheless often a source of constraints: electrical outlets poorly placed in a room, problems of fixing to the ceiling, unattractive connection … Depending on your interior, the choice of luminaire will not be the same.

FIRST SOLUTION: THE HOOK
This is the most basic solution. The power supply is traditionally located in the center of the ceiling. But if in the case where your table is placed at the corner of the room, the hook turns out to be the simplest solution.
The principle: fix a hook in line with the planned location (stack above your table). Lead the thread from your thread outlet by passing it through this hook. For the decorative touch: leave some “slack” on the wire, it should not be stretched.
Be careful, if your suspension is heavy, add a piece of fixing on the hook. Opt for decorative, discreet or colored hooks for a fun touch to avoid a too “DIY” look.
SECOND SOLUTION: THE RAIL
Another solution is to abandon the suspension for a rail made of several spots . There are several whose electrical outlet is eccentric at the end of the rail. This principle amounts to deriving the location of the wire outlet and the initial power cable: this is hidden in the rail and positioned at the desired location (several rail connections are possible). For maximum discretion, we advise you to paint it or choose it in the same color as the ceiling.
But if you do not want to give up the idea of your pendant luminaire, opt for a rail that allows you to connect one or more suspensions. Certainly the rail will be visible on the ceiling, but it is an easy and cheap solution to solve your problem of off-center ceiling. In addition, it allows you to add a few more spots, which is always useful.
DESIGN TIP: Paint it in a pop shade to create a graphic effect on the ceiling.
THIRD SOLUTION: THE BAR
Secure an effective length ceiling bar near the ceiling wire outlet. Change the power cable of your suspension if it is too short so that it can be wrapped around this bar.
DECORATIVE TIP: Drop the suspension in the center of the bar for an optimal aesthetic result.
FOURTH SOLUTION: THE DROP CEILING
Make a drop ceiling like a small formwork in MDF or gypsum (plasterboard) of the desired size and shape and a few centimeters thick to hide your wire connections and your junction box.
It can give a very architectural look above a dining table, for example. This is the solution that designer Marie-Josée Cyr thought of, especially since the ceilings were made of concrete, so it was impossible to embed the slightest connection.
It is the ideal solution to compose suspensions on the principle of accumulation. Let your creativity run free!
PLEASE NOTE: there is a wide variety of spots to plant. From the most classic, with the bulb visible, to the most original such as those in the shape of figurines or animals.
FIFTH SOLUTION: A SPECIFIC SUSPENSION
These are suspensions designed to be offset with respect to the output of the wires. They are equipped with an arm curved like an arc or articulated.
The suspension part and the diffuser of the luminaire are thus deported from the roof and from the suspension attachment point. Original and design, these lights are an ideal all-in-one solution. As a bonus, some of them allow you to modulate the position of the diffuser by several centimeters, or even to turn 180 degrees, up and down! The luminaire thus moves according to your desires and your changes in furniture layout.
Our advice: For the first four solutions, don’t forget that the electric wire has become an essential sewing element. Opt for colored threads, fabric or patterns. You will get a successful light staging.
Some lighting designers, especially Italian (Artemide, Lumina, Foscarini, Flos), have created suspensions specifically designed for off-center ceiling lights.
